About me.

I've been a fiction writer for as long as I can remember.
Before my family bought our first computer, I would type my stories on my
mom's dusty old typewriter, bind them with construction paper and staples
and beg my family to read them.
In 2007, I entered college as a Journalism major at the University of Missouri
in the hopes of turning my passion for writing into a marketable career
but I quickly realized that Journalism wasn't the type of writing for me.
My sophomore year, after participating in my first creative-writing workshop,
I made the leap from Journalism to English,
and I graduated with honors in May 2011.
Ever since, I've been writing.
I've traded the typewriter for a laptop,
but I'm still begging for my stories to be read.

I think two of my strongest attributes in writing are my ability to convey relationships between characters and my ability to shape words poetically in my narratives.
I like my characters best when they're lovable but deeply flawed.
I like novels best when they challenge the way I perceive the world.
Ultimately, the broadest goal I have for myself as a writer is for my writing to be relevant and lasting. I want my writing to be important and interesting enough that it creates discussion.
More specifically, I want to publish the novels whose plots are circulating in my head,
and I would like to teach writing in a University setting because I believe it's crucial for aspiring writers to have instructors who are willing to help them develop their talents.
Writing is a difficult career path,
but I'm in it for the long haul.
